Packing a Special Needs Theme Park Bag

Mickey Parade Float

I have read some wonderful blogs about what people pack in their park bags.  I thought I would contribute to that community.  Along with the usual necessary sundries, Buster and I have found some items we are sure to pack for the day unique to Little Banshee’s needs.  Some of these are the same as everyone else, some unique to our family.  At any rate, I thought I would chime in with our families must brings.

First… I carry my own smaller needs in a Loungefly.  Perfect size for me and they are so Disney chic!  That’s my phone, wallet, lip balm, sunglasses, and body glide (essential for preventing blisters and chub rub!).  Our family backpack is significantly larger (and kudos to Buster for lugging it around as well as Little Banshees chair!)  Our must haves in this bag are:

  1. Sunblock
  2. Waters (frozen the night before)
  3. Full spare set of clothes for Little Banshee
  4. Pull ups
  5. Wipes
  6. Ziplock gallon baggies – for wet or stinky clothes
  7. Ziplock gallon baggies for wallets if it pours
  8. Rain gear.  I bought light ponchos on Amazon (SaphiRose Rain Poncho) and a tarp for the wheelchair.
  9. Battery operated fan (LB overheats easily)
  10. Cooling towels – especially important if LB gets overheated and I need to cool her quickly.  In the afternoon, this can happen fast!
  11. Portable phone/device charger
  12. Emergency medications for LB.  We carry seizure rescue meds for LB.  I also carry band aids, first aid cream, moleskin for blisters, acetaminophen, and antihistimines.
  13. Uncrustables – essential if dining reservations are delayed or we are on line somewhere and LB becomes hangry!  LB also really likes popcorn so we usually get a refillable popcorn bucket.
  14. Sippie cup for LB
  15. Reusable straws.  LB eats the paper straws and they become unusable immediately.  I like the silicon ones.  Easy to clean and she enjoys chomping on them while enjoying a slushie on a hot day!

I also always bring two large stroller carabiners for the wheelchair to attach purchases so we do not have to carry them and for our water bottles.  Little Buster, Buster and I also have refillable water bottles we carry on the chair.  My favorite is the Simple Modern brand.  Put ice in them in the morning and you still have ice in the afternoon.  They are the best!  They have a great handle that easily attaches to the stroller carabiner.

So that is our supply list.  We carry more than some families out of necessity, but means we are prepared for any snafus that pop up.  It means our day can more smoothly continue, and we can go with the flow.
