Trip Planning Summer 2023: When To Go?

Buster and the Banshee thought that it would be interesting to walk through our trip planning process with our audience.  As part of this series, we will address many of the aspects of WDW trip planning that all families go through. The first question that most people face when planning a WDW trip is deciding when to go.  As you would expect, the most convenient times to go are also the most popular times to go.  Therefore, choosing a time is an exercise is balancing convenience with dealing with the crowds during these most popular times. Because we have children…

Rodeo Roundup BBQ: A Lost Opportunity?

This week, Disney released an update on the long awaited Rodeo Roundup BBQ at Hollywood Studios at WDW.  This is a new table service restaurant that is slated to open in Toy Story Land.  The key takeaways from the update are 1. The new opening date is Spring 2023 (originally it was 2020... then 2022), and 2. This will be a family style BBQ restaurant.  There were also an assortment of pictures of the interior, which was kind of neat, but nothing Earth shattering. While the prospect of a new restaurant opening at Hollywood Studios is exciting (it certainly can…

OVERRATED: WDW Rides

This is the next installment in our "Overrated/Underrated" series.  Today, we are going to share rides which we feel are overrated. Obviously, rides are the main reason why most people visit the parks.  We each have our must-do's and must-skips, and everyone lists are different.  However, there are some on our must-skip list which always seem to have long wait times for reasons that escape us.  We find that they don't quite live up to the hype. Now I know some people's personal favorites may be on this list, and those people might be offended by that.  Please don't be.…

What Should Disney Do About Dinoland USA?

We don't think it is a stretch to say that Dinoland USA is, by far, the weakest part of Disney's Animal Kingdom.  It has only one ride that would be considered a draw (Dinosaur) and even that ride has seen better days.  Beyond that, there really isn't anything special that you couldn't find at your local country fair.  [NOTE:  We are not counting Finding Nemo which, although technically in Dinoland USA, has nothing to do with dinosaurs!].  This area of the park is ripe for re-imagining, but what should Disney do with it? Here are a few humble suggestions from…

Using the “Stroller as a Wheelchair” Option at WDW (and Universal Orlando)

One of the first thing that any visitor to WDW will notice is the sheer number of strollers in the parks.  You can't walk more than a few feet before seeing a haggard parent pushing their little one(s) from attraction to attraction.  However, there are some areas of the park where strollers just aren't allowed...  ride lines, certain indoor areas, certain modes of transportation. This is probably a good thing from a practical standpoint.  Imagine if everyone with a stroller was allowed to bring into the ride line.  When it comes time to board the ride, what are you going…

UNDERRATED: WDW In-Park Quick Service Dining

This is part of our on-going series "Underrated/Overrated".  Today we will feature in-park quick service locations which we consider to be hidden gems. Quick service is a staple of most people's dining experience at WDW.  These locations allow you to get a quick bite to eat so you can stay fueled without taking a lot of time out of your day.  While WDW does offer standard theme park fair, like chicken nuggets, burgers, and frozen pizza, there are plenty of locations that serve some really delicious food on the go.  Some are very well known to most aficionados; however, this…

WDW’s Disability Access Service Part 1: Introduction

This post is one of a multi part series on the WDW Disability Access Service.  These posts are based upon our own personal experience with using DAS with our daughter, so your mileage may vary. What is DAS? DAS stands for "Disability Access Service".  It allows qualified individuals who have issues waiting in ride lines to wait in a virtual queue instead.  If you are familiar with rides like Cosmic Rewind, you probably are already familiar with the virtual queue concept.  Basically, you sign up for a return time, and when the  time comes, you enter the ride through the…
